PostPosted: Fri Oct 26, 2012 8:28 pm    Post subject: Nobunari SP quotes - Mixed zone Reply with quote

I talked to Nobu in the Mixed Zone and here is what he had to say.

His main focus in training:
"In my training, I have been very focused on my quad."

How he would rate this performance:
"I competed at Nebelhorn, but this is higher. Obviously this has the top skaters. I was trying to skate clean here, but unfortunately I slipped out on my triple Axel, so that was the only problem."

His son:
"Good! He's been good. He's two years old now and running around. He's in Japan now with my wife. I'm training by myself."

His knee injury:
"Ah, actually my knee feels much, much better and I don't feel that it affects my skating. So I feel pretty good right now."

Preparations for his free skate:
"Actually, I'm not doing two quads, like the top skaters, so obviously I have to skate clean."

Here are Nobunari's quotes from the mens press conference following the short program.

General statement:
"I am very happy to be here. I felt a little strange during the skate, but I will focus on my quad. I landed my quad so I am very happy."

His quad combo so close to the boards:
"I try to make my quad toe stay away from the boards, so I was trying and I think I did it better than in practice. I didn't crash into the boards, so I think that's good!!!"

On Yuzuru Hanyu's world record SP score last week:
"I'm very happy for my Japanese teammate. He's a very high-level skater and I think he is going to skate even better."

My photographer Gigi and I (Mark) were up early today to bring you coverage of the Ladies free skate practice from Windsor. Gigi has been getting great photos for you but you'll have to wait until Sunday to see most of them due to some rules in posting competition photos. I'll let you know when they have been posted at the main site.

Akiko: Had some problems with jumps throughout, but ended up landing everything in the end. Stumbled out of a 2A in the warmup. When her music played (first in the final flight): 3Z (fall), 2A-3T (2-footed on 3T), 3F. Rested. Spin, 3Z-2T-2L (2 foot on 2T), 3L-2T, 3S, 3L (2-footed and forward), then final spin. Although she had some problems with her jumps, her music and choreography were outstanding to music from "Cirque du Soleil". Light blue and green dress. Following her music, she fell on her 2T-3A combo (second jump), then landed it several times. 3F, 3S, 3L, 3Z were all very high. Tried the 2A-3T again and cheated the landing a little. Later, she got it. Toughed it out and succeeded.

Kanako: She is a very determined young skater! Warmed up slowly, as usual. When her music started, she landed her 3Z (high free leg as usual, as with the flip), 3L, 3F and then some steps. Landed 3S-2L, abandoned her 3F (too close to boards), then 3S-2L-2L, 3T and steps/spiral. Very successful. After her turn, she popped the 3S but then landed it several times. She worked hard on her 3S-2L and was nailing it by the end. After a successful 3F (missed in the rehearsal) and a spin, she ended the practice. She took off her right glove and seemed to be having some trouble with her hand, but later showed no signs of problems. Before she left the ice, she smiled broadly.... I wish she would smile more! Black/red dress for her Piazzola medley.

曲かけは1番目、3Lz(転倒)、2A-3T(3Tが両足)、3F、休憩、スピン、3Lz-2T-2Lo(2Tが両足)、3Lo-2T、3S、3Lo(両足でターンが入る)、スピン。

Akiko and Kanako were on the podium with gold medallist Kaetlyn Osmond of Canada.

Here are some quotes from the press conference that Japan Skates attended in the press centre here in Windsor.

General statements

Akiko: "I think I was able to put my short program behind me, and was able to perform quite well today."
Kanako: "I think I performed quite well today. I feel I was able to perform as a strong woman. I've always wanted to perform that way, so I'm happy."

Akiko (asked to compare this year's Skate Canada to last year's, when she also won the silver medal): "Last year, my short program was the first time at Skate Canada, so I was quite nervous about that. Also, it was the first time I had put in a triple-triple combination, so all of that made me nervous last year. This year, the situation has changed a little bit. My jumps were not going that well in practice, so I felt a little pressure about that."

Kanako (on her excellent start to this season): "Last year I had a good program, but I wasn't able to jump that well. This season I feel my practices have been going quite well, which has given me more confidence. I can come into this competition with more confidence."

Going to watch the men's practice shortly and will report soon!

Takahito improved immensely from SP. Omitted 3T from his quad combo, replaced second quad with 3F-3T and put hand out on 3S. 6th in FS!

Nobu stepped out of his 3A and left out the 2L at the end of the 3F-2T-2L combo but was otherwise perfect. A well-deservied bronze medal!

Inspired performances! Akiko and Kanako were sitting in front of me in the media/skaters section and were cheering them on. All the Japanese skaters had excellent performances!

3 Nobunari ODA JPN 156.20 78.48 77.72 7.93 7.36 7.89 7.79 7.89 0.00

Going to mens press conference in a few minutes and will bring you Nobunari's quotes!

Mens Press Conference

Nobunari's statement:

"I am very happy to be on the podium. I made a few mistakes in the free program but I am still happy with my medal and to come back here after last season."

On his preparation for the next competition:

"I have the Cup of Russia. The goal here was to do both programs well. I think I did OK this time - I was happy with my steps and spins, those elements. So I might not change these things - maybe the jumps, but not those."

On whether he will add a second quad:

"Um... I don't think so!" (laughs)

Going to cover the gala tomorrow and hopefully ask some more questions backstage.
