I was reading on wikipedia about Fumie's skating career.
I see that she has had many coaches since leaving her coach Nobuo Sato
in 2004.
Why has she not tried coming to Canada for coaching?
I think she should.
What do other posters on this forum think she should do to continue to be competitive among the Japanese skaters & skaters from other nations?

Fumie may be coming back to Canada soon for choreography, but as for long-term coaching, probably not.

I held a brief interview with Fumie on Wednesday (Feb 8th) during a break in her choreography session. I asked yukisnowflake's question about her training overseas.

Will post the transcript soon!

Mark

has contributed so much and inspired so many Japanese skaters .. She is a five-time Japanese National Champion, a three-time World Championship medalist, a three-time Four Continents Champion and the 20032004 Grand Prix Final Champion.

I see her as the first great Japanese skater of modern times as she was the pioneer who made it possible for the current awesome generation of Japanese skaters to be so great!

She sure has pioneered the way, but she's not satisifed with just having done that! She is fully in the fight for a spot in Sochi.

Which reminds me, I should post the February interview I did with her. I always meet her when she comes to do choreo with Lori Nichol here in Toronto. One thing... her SP next season is going to sizzle!

2011 (Aiko)

2012 (Mark)

Coming soon!

I usually talk to her every year in the early spring when she comes to train choreo, although sometimes it's only to stop in to say hello. I will post the 2012 interview soon. Asked a few questions, mainly ones that Aiko had asked for... so I honestly forget much of what was said. Will be a surprise for me then, too!

Mark, Thank you for doing the interviews so well and for posting them .. how great that Fumie is still working hard to improve ... Not easy as you get older ... She can still make a wonderful comeback and Akiko is proof older skaters can still medal in the highest competitions.
